In a landmark address before the US Congress on December 21, 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky first invoked the famous 1777 Battle of Saratoga as a turning point in history comparing it to his own country’s struggle to seek support and assistance from the United States.
By the end of February 2025, the war in Ukraine will have entered its fourth year as Russia and Ukraine remain locked in Europe’s largest conflict since the end of the Second World War II. A European-aligned Ukraine is pooling its limited resources to take the war with its fleet of unmanned drones to all parts of Russia striking as far north as the Kola Peninsula in the Arctic or striking Russian airbases at Mozdok thousands of miles from Ukraine deep in the volatile North Caucasus.
The urgency of events unfolding in Europe’s borderland is more than about Ukraine but concerns the future of Eurasia that is creating a host of threats that need to be addressed, ranging from the threat of Russian use of nuclear weapons to the internal dynamic affecting the disparate futures of Russia and the evolving great power set of Eurasian alliances consisting of China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran that are redrawing the contours of the Caspian region and Greater Central Asia, creating a Eurasian bloc of alliances.
The Saratoga Foundation seeks to address these and other concerns among the complex array of threats unfolding in the battle for Eurasia by providing unique regional voices and their analysis to the attention of national security audiences in the United States and those of its allies. These and other exciting developments are on the horizon for The Saratoga Foundation in the coming months ahead and we look forward to obtaining your support!
