Welcome to The Saratoga Foundation!
Greetings everyone,
I would like to introduce you to The Saratoga Foundation, a new non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to conducting research and analysis on conflict and instability in Eurasia.
We chose the name The Saratoga Foundation for a specific reason. This week marks an important date in history when, on October 7, 1777, the second and decisive Battle of Saratoga was fought in Saratoga, New York, becoming a key turning point in the American War for Independence that awakened the world to the cause of liberty.
Today a similar decisive battle is being waged on the steppes of Eurasia between Ukraine and Russia, which has become Europe’s largest conflict since the end of the Second World War. Ukraine is desperately attempting to prevent a revanchist Russia from restoring its influence in a strategic crossroads of Europe and Eurasia.
Toward this goal, The Saratoga Foundation was founded for the purpose of educating US policymakers about the strategic importance of events unfolding in Ukraine and the ongoing conflict in and around NATO’s Black Sea borderlands.
As the tides of history sweep this embattled region the war in Ukraine truly marks a major turning point in the struggle for a key part of the world that most Americans are aware of but deserves closer scrutiny, support, and attention.
From the Baltic to the Black Sea region and beyond, the mission of The Saratoga Foundation is to keep a watchful eye on all things Eurasia, monitoring key geopolitical developments unfolding in a region once described by the British geopolitician Sir Halford Mackinder as the geographical pivot of history.
The geopolitical pendulum of Eurasia remains in play as a struggle for influence unfolds along the periphery as a resurgent Russia is determined to wage its neo-Imperial wars of reemergence aligned with Iran, China, and North Korea.
With this in mind, The Saratoga Foundation seeks to foster greater understanding and awareness of this important crossroads between Europe and Eurasia through the writings and insights of some of the leading strategic thinkers in this rapidly evolving region. A complex array of challenges and threats await the United States and its Euro-Atlantic allies due to the emerging Eurasian Quad consisting of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea - a Eurasian alliance that may determine the mastery of Mackinder’s Heartland.
Thank you for your interest in The Saratoga Foundation. We look forward to your support and please be on the lookout for our future events in the weeks and months ahead!
