Watch Now! Military Mobility: NATO's Road to Readiness on the Eastern Flank

On June 12, Saratoga Foundation President Glen Howard spoke at the 20th anniversary celebration of GLOBSEC 2025 in Prague, Czechia, where he participated in a panel discussion titled “Military Mobility: NATO’s Road to Readiness on the Eastern Flank.” To watch the full hour-long discussion, please visit the Saratoga Foundation YouTube channel here.

Panel speakers included:

  • Marc-Aurel Bischoll, Senior Director, EU Policy and Industrial Affairs, GDELS

  • Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz, Commanding General, Eurocorps

  • Simone Cojocaru, Former State Secretary, Ministry of Defense of Romania

  • Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Ben Hodges, Former Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe

  • Moderator: Patrick Tucker, Science and Technology Editor, Defense One

During the panel, Mr. Howard highlighted the strategic significance of Ostrava highlighted in his new study, touting the Czech airbase as a potential “mini-Ramstein” that could bolster NATO’s aerial mobility in East Central Europe. He noted that such an initiative could serve as recognition of Czechia’s commitment to NATO’s 2 percent defense spending benchmark and its landmark decision to purchase $7.5 billion worth of U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets. Referring to Ostrava as a “new NATO window on the Carpathians,” Mr. Howard emphasized the city’s value as a multi-vector logistics hub, vital to strengthening Euro-Atlantic supply routes from East Central Europe to the Black Sea.
