On December 19th, The Saratoga Foundation and The Heritage Foundation held an online event on the ongoing civil unrest in Georgia, hosted by James Carafano, Senior Counselor to the President of The Heritage Foundation, and moderated by The Saratoga Foundation President Glen E. Howard. The online event discussed the opposition protests to the Georgian Dream-led government that have been ongoing since the October 26 parliamentary elections.
Participants in the discussion were Georgia’s former Ambassador to the United States, Vasil (Dato) Sikharulidze, Rodrigo Ballester, who is the Head of the Center for European Studies at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest, and Paul Goble, Distinguished Fellow Emeritus at The Saratoga Foundation and the author of the Windows on Eurasia blog.
The panelists assessed the internal situation inside Georgia and the roles of the European Union and the United States in resolving the stand-off between the Georgian Dream-led government and the Georgian opposition. The speakers also examined ways the new US incoming administration can assist Georgia in resolving the ongoing political unrest.
A transcript of the event can be found on The Saratoga Foundation website. Videos from this event and all our events can be found on The Saratoga Foundation’s Youtube channel as well.
