On December 11, The Saratoga Foundation and the Heritage Foundation held an online event as part of the Sinaia Dialogue in a discussion on Security and Prosperity in the Caspian Sea Region, hosted by James Carafano, Senior Counselor to the President of The Heritage Foundation, and moderated by The Saratoga Foundation President Glen E. Howard. The online event discussed the continued strategic importance of the Caspian Sea region to US national security policy and offered insight into future US policy toward the Caspian region with a new incoming US Presidential administration.
Joining in the discussion were Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to the United States, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United States, Khazar Ibrahim. Veteran diplomats, both ambassador’s discussed their country’s three-decades-old relations and cooperation with the United States dating back to the historical importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to US-Azerbaijan relations and Kazakhstan’s strategic cooperation with the United States that dates back to Project Sapphire.
